Deschutes Public Library is pleased to welcome Central Oregon Community College Humanities professor, Greg Lyons, to the Redmond Public Library for a presentation and slide show of his recent hikes in Italy. The program is free and open to the public and begins at 2:00 p.m.
In the fall of 2004, Lyons, who was teaching community college students for the Oregon International Education Consortium in France, spent several weeks hiking various regions of Italy. He enjoyed the spectacular scenery of the Dolomite Mountains in northeaster Italy, the Cinque Terre on the Ligurean Coast of the Mediterrane and Amalfi Coast of southeast Naples. Lyons says his favorite experience in Italy was hiking the Dolomites, staying in small villages and refugios along the alpine trails.
Lyons has lived in Germany and France and has traveled in the British Isles, Mexico and Italy. He has been teaching college since 1978 and has taught at COCC since 1991, where he developed a series of Popular Culture courses. Part of the series is a Travel Literature course, where he has used some of his own slides and travelogue as teaching tools.
