Just in time for the holidays, Deschutes Public Library hosts an ornament workshop at the Redmond Public Library on Saturday, December 10 from 2 - 4 p.m. Tika Weeks, owner of Alari Artistry leads the workshops. The workshop is free but registration is required and limited to the first 15 people. Call 312-1032 to make reservations.
Every year, families around the country unpack and unwrap boxes and bins of holiday decorations. From shiny, fragile ones to ones lovingly glued together by a child’s hand, those decorations preserve family memories and traditions. The hot, new style may vary from year to year, according to Weeks, but what seems to carry over from year to year is that tradition never seems to go out of style. “Retro inspired decorating seems to be all the rage this year, but the traditional evergreen wreath still plays an important role,” says Weeks.
Four years ago, Weeks put her love of all things crafty to the test and opened Alari Artistry. She offers a variety of craft instruction for all ages, including yarn crafts, card making, drawing and jewelry making. During the library workshops Weeks will lead the class in the production of three ornaments. “People can give them as gifts, or enjoy them on their own tree,” says Weeks. Participants in the class need not be craft experts. “These are simple, attractive ornaments that anyone can make,” continues Weeks. Workshop participants will create a beautiful 6 inch beaded snowflake, an adorable snowman made from polymer clay, and a glittery glass ball ornament, perfect for personalizing.
For more information about this class or to register please call 312-1032.
