Celebrate National Poetry Month At Cafe Libri

Café Libri is open at the LaPine Public Library on April 15, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. During this time, limited library services are available. This program is free and open to the public.
April is National Poetry Month and taking the Café’ Libri stage are two local performers who blend the poetry of words with the magic of music, singer/songwriters David Bowers and Mark Ransom. Following the performance, there will be an open mic for anyone interested in sharing original poetry in celebration of National Poetry Month. Shortly after Bowers moved to Bend, he introduced himself to Ransom at a solo-show. They became friends, and have collaborated on and off over the years. More recently, Ransom was asked to put together a band for the Deschutes Brewery’s New Years Eve party. He took the job and invited Bowers to join the newly formed group, Ramshackle. Bowers accepted and they have found the chemistry to be funky and good, so have decided to keep it going and play whenever and wherever they can.
Raised in a railroad shack outside of Ellensburg, Washington, Bowers grew up with no electricity or indoor plumbing. His steady diet of transistor radio country music inspired early musical adventures. He is influenced by the music of Jeff Tweedy and Gillian Welch and his day job of restoring damaged ecosystems. Ransom, raised in the Midwest, felt the lure of mountains, wilderness and came west to attend Colorado State University where he studied music, mythology and journalism. Upon graduation he landed in Bend, sight-unseen and has been here ever since.
