Deschutes Public Library pleased to announce September’s Library Theater movie screening on Tuesday, September 27 at 6:00 p.m. at the LaPine Public Library. This program is free and open to the public.
In a fitting tribute to the back to school season, September’s Library Theater features a film starring Richard Dreyfuss as a musician and composer who takes a teaching job to pay the bills. In his spare time, he continues to pursue his lifelong goal of composing one memorable piece of music that will leave his mark on the world. Thirty years come and go and Mr. Holland (played by Dreyfuss) learns that true measure of his success will never be rooted in a single piece of music, but in the students he has inspired over the years.
Directed by Stephen Herek in 1996, Dreyfuss was nominated for both an Oscar and a Golden Globe for his roll in the film. Glen Hadley as Holland’s wife, Olympia Dukakis as the schools principal and William H. Macy as the vice principal also star. The film stands as a moving honor to all the teachers who touch the lives and inspire young people around the country.
