Deschutes Public Library is pleased to announce June’s Library Theater screening of "Life Is Beautiful" on Tuesday, June 14 at 7:00 p.m. This program is free and open to the public.
According to an English proverb, “One father is more than one hundred schoolmasters.” Celebrate fathers, our first teachers, and their important roles in our lives at Deschutes Public Library at June’s Library Theater. Again and again, Hollywood returns to fathers for tales that touch, teach and move an audience. Because fathers are universal, the theme of fatherhood remains a fresh and important one, rich for directors and actors to continue exploring. Fathers portrayed in film span the spectrum of humankind. From Darth Vadar to Atticus Finch, the fathers of film have lessons to teach.
"LIfe Is Beautiful," tells the tale of an Italian family’s idyllic life prior to World War II. Everything comes to a screeching halt when the Jewish family is shipped to a Nazi camp. The father, played by Roberto Benigni, convinces his son that everything around them is a zany game to spare his son from the horrors of concentration camp imprisonment in this poignant tearjerker comedy. Benigni won an Academy Award for his comical and touching portrayal of a father who strives to protect his son from the harsh reality of prison camp. The film is
in Italian with English subtitles.
