Deschutes Public Library is pleased to welcome Strictly Organic, for a program titled “Hot Java: A Coffee Story,” on October 19 at 6:30 in the Library Admin Conference Room (507 NW Wall, Bend). This program is free and open to the public.
The Strictly Organic Coffee Company has been changing the coffee scene of Bend, one pot at a time. For 14 years, they have been offering quality Fair Trade coffee for the savvy coffee consumer. According to Rhonda Ealy, “Fair Trade is a certification program through which coffee farmers are guaranteed a fair price, no matter what the free trade market price is at the time.” Not only does the program help the farmers who are trying to make a living wage, it also produces a high quality, organic product. “The program also offers farmers an education about using sustainable agricultural practices and affordable financing for future crops,” adds Ealy. Strictly Organic Coffee Company buys certified, organic, Fair Trade coffee. They custom roast orders in an 8 pound air roaster and deliver to homes, businesses and grocery outlets around Bend.
Besides discussing Fair Trade, Ealy will also highlight the steps in making a perfect cup of coffee. Ealy says that fresh roasted coffee, using the correct grind for the brewing method being used, water temperature and steeping time all play a part in creating an savory cup-o joe. A coffee tasting follows the presentation.
