Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia, defines menopause as “the physiological cessation of menstrual cycles.” Peppered throughout that simple clinical definition are words like “failure,” “shutting down,” and “faltering.” “You’d think that menopause was a disease and not simply a stage of life,” says Dr. Janice Blumer, DO, who will present “The Wisdom of Menopuase,” at the LaPine Public Library on October 9, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. The presentation is free and open to the public and part of the Be Well Series being offered at the Deschutes Public Library branches.
According to Dr. Blumer, understanding and embracing this life changing event is an opportunity for renewed creativity and growth. Dr. Blumer believes that it is critical that women begin to understand that menopause is a life stage and that it is not "estrogen deficiency syndrome.” Dr. Blumer’s presentation will include practical approaches to controlling symptoms and managing changes naturally.
Dr. Blumer holds a Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, California. “Osteopathy treats the entire person rather than simply treating symptoms,” says Blumer, who opened Vital Link Osteopathic Health Center in Redmond four years ago. Before moving to Central Oregon ten years ago, she competed her residency training in family practice at Case Western Reserve/ University Hospitals in Cleveland, OH. She also holds a degree in homeopathy from the British Institute of Homeopathy.
This program is free and open to the public. For more information, please visit Deschutes Public Library at www.dpls.us or call 312-1032.
