Please join the Deschutes Public Library for a World Cafe program to explore "Who Are We Becoming...The Changing Demographics of Central Oregon" on Thursday, May 29th, 2008 at 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. in the Brooks Room of the Bend Public Library. This dynamic event allows us to connect diverse perspectives, listen together for new insights, explore questions, and share collective discoveries about this place we call home...Central Oregon.
This event will start with a presentation by library director Michael Gaston on the results of a recent Deschutes County demographic study that was commissioned by the library. The second half of the evening will consist of small-group discussion facilitated by Andrea Dyer, who has experience leading many different World Cafe events and says that the desired outcome happens when "The participants feel their voice is a part of the collective understanding of the changes in Central Oregon and are inspired to continue the conversation beyond this gathering."
The World Cafe is a unique process that has been used in business, education and community organizations across the globe, and enhances our capacity to talk and think more deeply together about critical issues that face our communities. By engaging in conversations that matter, the mutual intelligence and wisdom of each participant can be accessed to discover new insights into questions or issues of importance in our community, and a sense of the whole becomes increasingly strong.
This program is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Please register by calling Lisa McGean at 541-312-1034 or by going to the online calendar. Those wishing to attend events that have special needs resulting from a disability should also contact Lisa McGean at 312-1034 at least three days prior to the event.
