Screen The King In Redmond

Posted By:  Liz Goodrich
Date Posted:  6/20/2008

Elvis is in the building! Deschutes Public Library is pleased to screen the classic Elvis film, Viva Las Vegas at the Redmond Public Library on Tuesday, June 24, 2008. The screening will begin at 6:00 pm. Participants are encouraged to dress in honor of The King and refreshments will be served. This program is free and open to the public.

Elvis plays Lucky Jackson, race-car driver, who blows into Las Vegas for an upcoming Grand Prix race. To make money for a new engine, Lucky gets a waiter job at a casino and starts working his crooning charms on Rusty Martin (Ann-Margret). The on-screen chemistry between the two makes the movie a lot of fun. Some have said that Presley never had a better costar than Ann-Margret and their race-car romance is classic fodder for the 1960’s movie musicals that were so popular. The songs, including the snappy title tune, contribute to the films iconic status. Viva Las Vegas is one of the Elvis movies that stands the test of time, when the legend was still at his peak.
