The Deschutes Public Library is proud to present local writer Ellen Waterston as January's Second Sunday guest speaker. This month's celebration of the written word will take place on Sunday, January 11th, at 3:00 p.m. in the Brooks Room of the Bend Public Library. This program is free and open to the public, and an open mic will follow.

Waterston will be reading from her newly published volume of poetry, "Between Desert Seasons", published in December 2008 by Wordcraft of Oregon. Lawson Inada, Oregon's Poet Laureate says, "The truth is: Ellen Waterston's poems arrive. They situate themselves naturally, to proceed in compelling, telling ways. Each poem leaves something behind."

Besides being the author of several other publications, Waterston is the founder and director of The Nature of Words, Bend's annual literary event that brings nationally recognized authors and poets for readings, panel discussions, and workshops. She is also the founder and director of the Writing Ranch, located in Central Oregon.
