Originally scheduled as part of the Beatles series commemorating the 28th anniversary of John Lennon’s death, the program On the Lasting Popularity of “Strawberry Fields Forever,” has been rescheduled for Friday, February 20 at 3:00 pm at the LaPine Public Library. The program is free and open to the public.
February marks the 42nd anniversary of the John Lennon song “Strawberry Fields Forever.” According to pop music scholar and presenter of the program, Dr. Arnold Wolfe, “it was one of the singer’s favorite songs and so full of imagery and meaning that it’s easy to spend an hour or two dissecting and talking about it.” The song marked a departure from previous Beatles tunes says Wolfe. “It is a far more introspective song. Not like the pop love songs of the early years, like “I Want To Hold Your Hand,” but something more, something deeper.”
Arnold S. Wolfe is professor emeritus of communication at Illinois State University. He has published articles on television, film and music, including studies on the enduring popularity of the Beatles and their music.
