The Deschutes Public Library and Second Sunday is pleased to announce a reading by local writer Lorna Cahall.  This event will take place on Sunday, September 13th, 2009 in the Brooks Room of the Bend Public Library at 3:00 p.m.  This event is free and open to the public, and an open mic will follow.

Lorna Cahall, is a local writer and author of “The Actor King: Journey to Alexandria”.  “The Actor King” published in 2008, is a work of historical fiction that offers new light on the rich and passionate time of the ancient world.  Ms. Cahall says, “I am writing this series to revisit the amazing world of the ancient Mediterranean at the beginning of the 2nd century A.D.  It seemed to me to resemble our era in many ways.  Instead of our modern technological culture, there existed the vast Roman Empire, like us, at its peak.  And there was that hint of an uncontrollable, irrational tide starting to turn against it all.”  Her novel is centered around the young and brilliant Tullius, as he makes his way to Alexandria.  Critics have called it, “Vivid and energetic storytelling…..Colorful characters carry us right along with them as they travel from Antioch to Alexander.”

Lorna Cahall earned an MA in art history and ancient history and studied the fascinating images of women’s ritual left by ancient artists.  She believes that much of women’s spiritual and intellectual history has been lost to us, and only in the last few decades has the work begun to discover the real place of women in the ancient world.  She has written manuals and given workshops on labyrinths, women’s studies, and the goddess, and is currently writing “Fish in the Dust”, the sequel to “The Actor King.”
