Poetry Workshop and Reading in Sunriver

As part of the year-long “Celebrate Oregon Authors” series, the Deschutes Public Library is proud to present a poetry writing workshop and reading by Portland writer Penelope Scambly Schott.  The writing workshop “Come Start a Poem” will begin at 11: 00 a.m. and following a short break, Ms. Schott will give a reading of her work starting at 12:30 p.m.  Both events are free and open to the public, and refreshments will be provided.  Please register for the workshop online at www.dpls.us/calendar or by calling Lisa at 541-312-1034.

Penelope Scambly Schott has published a novel, four chapbooks, and six books of poetry.  Her lyric collections are The Perfect Mother, Baiting the Void, and her newest collection, May the Generations Die in the Right Order.  The other full-length poetry books are verse narratives, including Penelope: The Story of the Half-Scalped Woman, The Pest Maiden: A Story of Lobotomy, and A is for Ann: Mistress Hutchinson Disturbs the Commonwealth which won the 2008 Oregon Book Award for Poetry.

She has worked as an artist’s model, a donut maker in a cider mill, and always a college professor.  After many years in rural New Jersey, she moved to Portland.  She has taught workshops all over the country, including here in Oregon for the Oregon State Poetry Association.
