Second Sunday: Writer Charles Goodrich

The Deschutes Public Library is pleased to present a reading by poet Charles Goodrich.  This month’s Second Sunday will take place on Sunday, November 8th, in the Brooks Room of the Deschutes Public Library at 11:00 a.m.  This reading is free, and open to the public.  An open mic will follow.


 Charles Goodrich is the author of a volume of poems, “Insects of South Corvallis” (Cloudbank Books, 2003), and a collection of essays about nature, parenting, and building his own house, “The Practice of Home” (Lyons Press, 2004) and he was lead editor for “In the Blast Zone: Catastrophe and Renewal on Mount St. Helens” (OSU Press, 2008).  His essays and poetry have appeared in many magazines including Orion, The Sun, Open Spaces, Willow Springs, Zyzzyva, and Best Essays Northwest, and a number of his poems have been read by Garrison Keillor on the National Public Radio Program, “The Writer’s Almanac”.  Charles worked for twenty-five years as a professional gardener, during which time he and his wife also built their own house.  He presently serves as the Program Director for the Spring Creek Project for Ideas, Nature, and the Written Word at OSU.  Charles will also be a guest author for the 2009 Nature of Words literary event in Bend running November 4-8.
