Paul Klee ArtworkIn March the Art Envy series will look at the Swiss artist Paul Klee. Participants in this monthly workshop will enjoy a 20-minute presentation on the life and work of Paul Klee, and then get creative in a 45-minute painting workshop taught by local artist Paula Bullwinkel. The workshop will take place at the Bend Public Library in the Brooks Room at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, March 8th. Seating will be on a first come, first serve basis. Supplies are provided and this program is free and open to the public.

Paul Klee (1879-1940) was a Swiss painter of German nationality. His highly individual style was influenced by movements in art that included expressionism, cubism, and surrealism. Klee was a natural draftsman and experimented with and eventually mastered, color theory. His work reflects his musicality, so much so, that jazz composer Chuck Mangione released a “surprising, strange, and delightful” album in 1968 titled “Performing Musical Interpretations of the Paintings of Paul Klee”. Today, a painting by Paul Klee can sell for as much as $7.5 million.

Local Bend artist Paula Bullwinkel has a master’s degree in art education with a minor in painting. She has participated in numerous one-woman and group shows in New York City and the East Coast area. For 18 years, she was a professional fashion and portrait photographer for Magazines in NYC and London. Paula believes artmaking is best approached with a willingness to take risks, and a keen attitude towards the enjoyment of invention.
