The Deschutes Public Library and Second Sunday are pleased to present a joint reading by local writers Charles Finn and Mary Sojourner. The reading will take place on Sunday, May 9
th, at the Bend Public Library in the Brooks Room at 2:00 p.m. An open mic will follow the reading, and this event is free and open to the public.
Mary Sojourner is the author of the novels
Sisters of the Dream and
Going Through Ghosts, a short story collection
Delicate, an essay collection
Bonelight: Ruin and Grace in the New Southwest, and two memoirs:
Solace: Rituals of loss and Desire, and
She Bets Her Life. She is a National Public Radio Commentator and teaches writing circles in Bend. She says that “Writing is her lifeline”, and that the Deschutes River is “The river that flows five minutes from her home and tethers her heart in the same way”.
For the last 15 years, Charles Finn has been a poet, essayist and freelance writer. His work has appeared in a wide variety of literary journals, anthologies, newspapers and consumer magazines, including
The High Desert Journal, Open Spaces, Big Sky Journal, Montana Magazine, Northern Lights, and many, many others. After stints in Japan, British Columbia, and Montana, he now lives in Bend with his wife, Joyce Mphande, and their two cats. Most recently he has taken on the position of assistant editor of
