Writing Workshop: Poetry as Spiritual Practice

The Deschutes Public Library and Second Sunday is pleased to offer a poetry writing workshop taught by Robert McDowell. The workshop will take place on Sunday, June 13
th, 2010 at the Deschutes Public Library Administration building from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Although this workshop is free, advance registration is necessary. Please register

McDowell’s book, “Poetry as Spiritual Practice: Reading, Writing, and Using Poetry in Your Daily Rituals, Aspirations, and Intentions” will be the basis for the workshop. The book and the workshop explore the relationship between the disciplines of writing and spiritual practice, and offer practical exercises and springboards to help writers be more productive.
Robert McDowell is an acclaimed public speaker and the author of three books of poetry, co-author of two volumes of literary theory, co-translator of a collection of stories, and the editor of three anthologies. His poems, stories, essays, and reviews have appeared in hundreds of anthologies and periodicals here and abroad. He has lived and worked on a seed grass farm, run sheep, raised horses, served as a fundraiser for AmericorpVISTA, and taught high school English, journalism, and drama.
