For July’s Second Sunday, Suzanne Burns and Quinton Hallett will share the stage as they each read a selection from their work. The reading will take place on Sunday, July 11^th, in the Brooks Room of the Bend Public Library. This reading is free and open to the public, and an open mic will follow.

Local favorite Suzanne Burns is the author of Misfits and Other Heroes, and the newly released chapbook The Widow. Burns’ first poetry collection Blight, debuted from Archer Books in 2001, and she has followed up with several since that time. Her poetry collection, The Flesh Collection, was released in 2005 and was a Foreword Magazine Book of the Year Finalist in the poetry category. Other work includes The Dream Tree, and Double Header, plus her most recent poetry chapbook The Widow. She has performed her work at Wordstock in Portland. She lives and writes in Bend, Oregon, and is currently working on a novel.

Noti poet Quinton Hallett is the author of three chapbooks, founder of Fern Rock Falls Press, and her work has appeared in print and online journals and anthologies including: Windfall, hipfish, Dona Nobis Pacem, Tiger’s Eye, La Fovea, and Rattlesnake Review. She has won state and national awards and received residencies from Caldera and Soapstone. Active in the Oregon State Poetry Association, she chaired the Eugene-Springfield Chapter, and through OSPA, co-coordinates a reading series at the Springfield Library and poet visits to Crow High School. In July, 2009, Quinton led a workshop and read at the Rane and Taos Art Galleries with the Third Wave Poets in Taos, NM. Her new chapbook, Refuge from Flux, was released by Finishing Line Press in January.

Quinton is originally from Long Island, New York, and lived in Michigan, New Hampshire, San Francisco, Washington, DC and Los Angeles before moving to Noti in 1988. For seventeen years before turning to poetry, Quinton was an art administrator. She organized exhibitions for the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, and she was Assistant Director of the Armand Hammer Foundation in Los Angeles.
