The Deschutes Public Library is pleased to announce the site of an East Bend Library that will open in March 2011. The future site is 8,000 square feet and located at Borden’s Corner -- 2175 NE Highway 20.

“After a comprehensive study of our service area, it became very clear that we were not adequately serving approximately 40,000 residents in east Bend,” said Assistant Director Kevin Barclay. “After several community focus groups, we believe we have a strong understanding of what services and resources will best serve the eastside residents. We are eager to begin!”

The new library will provide full services that will include: a community meeting room, popular materials collection, Internet stations, story times, adult programming, and holds pick-up.

According to Barclay, there will be no financial impact to taxpayers. “The Deschutes Public Library has been fiscally conservative and set aside reserves for the East Bend Library’s development and operations. Furthermore, we have implemented changes based on a staffing and hours analysis that will allow us to operate more efficiently. ” Barclay said. “We negotiated a very reasonable lease and the location meets all of our top criteria – easy access, visibility, low cost, and central to neighborhoods, schools, assisted living centers, and other important service areas.”
