Build Your Own Dog House

DoghouseTired of the family dog taking up space on your bed?  Maybe Rover needs his own space! Learn how to build your own dog house at the Redmond Public Library on Sunday, August 22 at 1:00 and at the Bend Library on September 11 at 1:00 during the “Know Dogs” series being offered during August and September at Deschutes Public Libraries.  Local retired contractor, Fred Olson, will be demonstrating the techniques required to construct a dog house. Following the demonstration, the house will be raffled off to a program participant. The programs are free and open to the public.

Olson has led do it yourself programs at the library for the past two years. “The dog house is a simple, cost efficient, practical, shelter for dogs,” says Olson. The project is appropriate for beginners and uses easy to find material and simple skills. “You don’t even need power tools,” says Olson. “But an electric screw driver and circular saw make the project much easier.” Besides doing library presentations, Olson works with his dog, Sir Jeffrey, who is a registered therapy dog.

For more information about this or other library programs, please visit the library website at www.deschuteslibrary.org. People with disabilities needing accommodations (alternative formats, seating or auxiliary aides) should contact Liz at 312-1032.
