Library Offers Free and Convenient Methods to Access Customer Accounts
Courtesy mailers will be discontinued as of October 1, 2010

As of October 1st 2010, the Deschutes Public Library will no longer mail courtesy print notices to alert customers of holds, due dates, and fines.   The Library realized by eliminating this courtesy service, it would save more than $22,000 annually.

“We have several options available for customers to access their account information that is more timely and cost-effective,” said Circulation Manager Holly McKinley. “Only 2% of our customer base currently receives the courtesy printed mailers, so we’re hoping the impact won’t be too severe on our customers. And, it saves the Library a substantial amount of money.”

According to McKinley there are several ways to access your library account information that are free and easy to use:

1.       Email: Sign up for email notification with the Library and you will receive timely notices multiple times with information about items on hold, late items, when items need to be returned, etc. If you currently do not have an email account, you can look into taking a free email class at the Library or ask for specific help at a public service desk in your local branch.

2.       Phone: If you currently have a local 541 number from any of our service areas in Bend, La Pine, Redmond, Sisters, and Sunriver you may sign up for phone notification.   The phone notification is timely but less frequent than email. Remember the 541 area code must be local -- Madras & Klamath are long distance.

3.       Online: Online access to your account is available 24/7 from home, work, or the Library computers. We are happy to assist you with finding your account information online. Follow the instructions on our website: http://catalog.dpls.lib.or.us/screens/help_index.html or call the Library for more assistance at 541-617-7050.

4.       Automated phone: You can access the automated phone line by calling 541-617-7050 and select option 1 to renew materials and find all of your account information. You will need your library card number located on the back of the card along with the barcode number of the items you have checked out.

5.       Staff Assistance: Our friendly staff is always available to assist at any customer service desk in your local library or call 541-617-7050 option 2 for assistance from home or work.

For more information, please contact Library Services Manager Holly McKinley at 541-617-7045 or Deschutes Public Library Staff at 541-617-7050 option 2.
