The Deschutes Public Library is proud to present an evening with writer Diane Hammond, author of the recently released novel, Seeing Stars. She will read a selection from her work on October 14^th, at 6:30 p.m. in the Brooks Room of the Bend Public Library. This event is free and open to the public.

In 2005, Hammond moved to Los Angeles from Bend to give her daughter the chance to act professionally. “It was a remarkable, surreal, transformative experience not only for my daughter but for me and my husband as well, “she says. “There was absolutely no place like Hollywood, in all its feverishness and tawdriness and glory.” Two years after their arrival, Hammond and her family returned to Oregon, where she found herself compelled to write about the experience. The result is her latest novel, Seeing Stars, which is not about her family, but centers around four fictional young actors who have come to Hollywood to make their marks.

Diane Hammond is the author of three previous critically acclaimed novels, Going to Bend, Homesick Creek, and Hannah’s Dream. A Bend resident, she is the recipient of an Oregon Arts Commission literary fellowship and served as a spokesperson for the Free Willy Keiko Foundation and the Oregon Coast Aquarium. She lives with her husband Nolan, wildlife curator at the High Desert Museum, and daughter Kerry, a senior at Summit High School.
