15,000 eBook Classics Now Available in Digital Downloads

The Deschutes Public Library has just added over 15,000 public domain eBooks from Project Gutenberg to our Digital Downloads site.   You'll find a link to them on the left side of any page in the Digital Downloads site where it says "Enjoy additional eBooks today!"  This is a great way to get the classics in eBook format.

The Project Gutenberg titles don't count against your checkout limit, don't require the Overdrive Media Console, and don't have a loan period (you can keep them as long as you like).  Just click the download link for a book, save the file to your computer, and then use your eBook software to transfer them to your reader.  The titles can be read on a Mac or a PC using any EPUB-compatible software and transferred to EPUB-capable eBook readers such as the iPad, iPhone, Sony Reader, or nook.  To get started, visit the public domain page on the Digital Downloads site, and enter your search term in the "Search public domain eBooks" search box.

The Project Gutenberg collection expands DPL's Digital Downloads by making thousands of classic eBooks available without waitlists or holds. The collection includes much of the greatest literature of all time, from authors like Shakespeare, Melville, Tolstoy, Austen, and Twain. Most of the eBooks are in English, but eBooks in French, German, Chinese and other languages are also available.
