Four of the Central Oregon Symphony’s most talented string players will perform on Saturday, October 16 at the Redmond Public Library at 1:00 pm and at the Bend Public Library at 4:00 pm.

Grab a book, find a seat, and listen to Beethoven played by the Candlelight Chamber Players. Adults and children alike will enjoy this low-key, but lovely and beautiful hour of music presented by the Central Oregon Symphony Association as part of their Music in Public Places program. The Candlelight Chamber Players will perform Beethoven’s String Quartet, Op. 59, No. 3 in four movements. This work is the last of three commissioned quartets that Beethoven completed circa 1808 for Prince Andreas Razumovsky, who at the time was the Russian Ambassador to Vienna.

The quartet is comprised of Diane Allen and Carol Kirkman, violin; Leslie Knight, viola; and Travis Allen, cello. Parents bringing their children might want to check out the Deschutes Public Library’s collection of music and books, by and about famous composers, suitable for children. For young children look for Beethoven Lives Upstairs by Barbara Nichol. Older children ages 10-14 years will enjoy The Mysteries of Beethoven’s Hairby Russell Martin and Lydia Nibley.

Music in Public Places is a program of the Central Oregon Symphony Association. These concerts are held at Central Oregon venues that traditionally are not recognized as being music concert venues. MIPP concerts are designed to offer serendipitous music experiences for the community, free of charge. This is the first MIPP concert of our 2010-2011 Season.
