The Deschutes Public Library and Oregon Humanities are proud to co-present a free discussion about American media and democracy. This Conversation Project event will take place on
Friday, November 5th, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sunriver Area Public Library.
What are the primary failings of contemporary mass media news? What is our responsibility and what are our opportunities to improve prevailing conditions? Do our viewpoints have enough common ground to point to possibilities for effective activism? This is the focus of “What Never Was & Never Will Be: Can Our Media Save Democracy?” a free conversation with Jeff Golden, former host of Jefferson Public Radio’s
Jefferson Exchange. Golden has served as a public broadcasting producer, columnist, radio talk show host, and commentator. He is a former Jackson County commissioner, chief of staff to the Oregon Senate president, and environmental policy aide to the City of Portland. Golden is senior fellow of the American Leadership Forum and a media fellow of the Property and Environment Research Center.
