Four Award-winning Authors Scheduled to Visit Central Oregon as part of the Library Foundation’s Author! Author! Literary Series The Deschutes Public Library Foundation is proud to present bestselling author Mitch Albom as part of its Author! Author! Literary Series. Mitch Albom will present at the Bend High School auditorium on
Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. and discuss his latest novel
The Time Keeper.
According to Mitch Albom’s website,
Albom is an American best-selling author, journalist, screenwriter, dramatist, radio and television broadcaster and musician. His books have sold more than 30 million copies worldwide. Having achieved national recognition for his sports writing in the earlier part of his career, he is perhaps best known for the inspirational stories and themes that weave through his books, plays and films. He is also well known for his philanthropic work in Detroit, Michigan where he founded four charities. Mitch Albom will kick-off Author! Author! --- a new literary series that brings world-class, award winning authors to Central Oregon. Revenue from ticket sales provides funds to enhance the Library’s services and programs. Author! Author! presents one author each quarter from September 2012 through June 2013.
“The Author! Author! Literary Series celebrates four of the finest authors writing today,” said Community Relations Manager Chantal Strobel. “We believe these acclaimed voices are critical to expand the cultural landscape in Central Oregon. Author! Author! improves literacy, strengthens community dialogue, and enhances the programs and services of the Deschutes Public Library. It’s a win-win for the Central Oregon region.”
The quarterly presentation schedule is as follows:
- Bestselling author Mitch Albom author of Tuesdays with Morrie; Five People You’ll Meet in Heaven; Have a Little Faith; The Time Keeper who will present Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at Bend High School Auditorium.
- Pulitzer Prize Winner Jennifer Egan author of Visit from the Goon Squad; The Keep; Look at Me presents Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Bend High School Auditorium.
- Pulitzer Prize Winner Stephen Greenblatt author of The Swerve; Will in the World: How Shakespeare became Shakespeare presents Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Bend High School Auditorium.
- Edgar Award winner Erik Larson author of Devil in the White City; In the Garden of Beasts will present Thursday, June 20, 2013at Bend High School Auditorium.
The Library Foundation will gift 100 of Albom’s latest book,
The Time Keeper, to area high schools, as well as provide 100 seats to Albom’s presentation on September 15 at Bend High.
“The Library Foundation will work closely with regional high schools and provide books for students to read prior to each author’s visit, as well as provide 100 tickets for students to attend the presentations,” Strobel said. “This is part of an effort to reach out to young adults in the region and expose them to quality literature while engaging them in discussions regarding the book’s themes and content.”
