Introducing Belluno Italy: Bend’s Newest Sister City

Belluno, ItalyWhat could Bend, Oregon, have in common with Belluno, Italy? Join the Bend/Belluno Sister City Committee for a presentation on Bend’s newest sister city at the Downtown Bend Public Library on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at 2:30 pm. The presentation is free and open to the public.

According to members of the committee, Bend and Belluno are “feel-good places.” Beautiful setting, welcoming people, a significant tourist industry, and tasty restaurants are common threads that tie Bend and Belluno. But when Ron and Pam Garzini, two of the first committee members that traveled to Belluno, visited they also noticed that Bend and Belluno share a common issue: downtown parking! Having an opportunity to see how another city handles issues and develops solutions is one of the benefits of having a sister city. “This relationship opens the door to many meaningful exchange opportunities for both cities,” explained committee member Oran Teater. “We have a lot in common in terms of culture and economy, and this relationship will allow us to share knowledge about how each city addresses our shared issues like growth, economic vitality and common community issues.”
