Beloved American humorist Erma Bombeck famously said, “When humor goes, there goes civilization.” Deschutes Public Library is happy to report that civilization is safe, for now, thanks to two presentations by local humorist Joel Clements at the Redmond and Downtown Bend Public Libraries. The presentations are free and open to the public and part of the
Know Humor series throughout the month of October at Deschutes Public Library.
November 3, 2012 • 2:00 p.m.Redmond Public Library
November 10, 2012 • 2:00 p.m.Brooks Room, Downtown Bend Public Library
During his presentation Clements discusses what makes us laugh, what humor is and what it takes to become a humorist.
Clements received his M.A. in modernist literature, with a focus on Post-Victorian Colonialism. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Rhetoric. He is a writer, a professional humorist, and frequent public speaker who lives in Bend. His previous public academic lectures include “Images of the Media in Film” and “Examining Race in Conrad’s Heart of Darkness.” He teaches writing and rhetoric for COCC and Mountain View High School.
