Author Henry Miller once said “One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.” Join John Gottberg Anderson, freelance writer, photographer and world traveler for presentations on how to find those new places on a budget. Anderson’s presentations are part of the Know Money series at Deschutes Public Library throughout the month of January. The presentations are free and open to the public.

“It may require a leap of faith, but know that you can travel both cheaply and well,” say Anderson. “My presentations are designed to help you turn your perceptions upside down, enabling you to spend more time traveling at less cost than ever before.” Anderson says that by reducing your expenditures on transportation, lodging and dining, you can easily enjoy a week-long vacation for less than you might once have paid for a weekend. The presentations will focus primarily on regional travel, but also will offer some pointers for international travel.
Perhaps best-known in Bend as the author of weekly travel and dining features in
The Bulletin, Anderson was formerly the travel news editor for
The Los Angeles Times, a senior editor for the Paris-based Michelin Guides and the managing editor of the Singapore-based Insight Guides. He is the author of 14 books and co-author of (or contributor to) nine more, and has been published in dozens of magazines and newspapers in the United States and abroad. Anderson has taught travel writing and other courses in journalism at Western Washington University and at his alma mater, the University of Oregon. An avid skier, he has been a resident of Bend since 2003.
