Should you put your money in gold? What’s that old coin worth? Could your junk drawer really be your cash drawer? Numismatist Mike Graham will share a wealth of knowledge about selling and investing in coins, metals and other collectables when he visits the Sunriver Area and Downtown Bend Public Libraries in late January. His presentation, “From Junk in Your Drawers to Cash in Your Pocket,” is part of Deschutes Public Library’s “
Know Money” series of programs and is free and open to the public.

He'll also discuss the value of gold, and is open to answering just about any question people may have. “More and more people are putting their money into gold,” says Graham. “My advice has always been ‘buy the best you can afford.’ Push for quality.” While most people have an appreciation for gold’s value, they often underestimate the value of things they might have considered to simply be old trinkets. In that vein, Graham will also discuss what to look for when you come across vintage items.
Graham turned his early love of collecting coins and stamps into a profitable business. He has owned Mountain High Coin in Bend for the last 20 years. In addition to doing local retail business, Mountain High Coin supplies collectables for national companies such as the Bradford Coin Exchange, the HSN-TV coin show and projects for clearing and catalogue houses. He is an active sponsor of the High Desert Treasure Club and the Bend Coin Club of Central Oregon.
