Know Comics

March is the month for learning the creation of comics at Deschutes Public Library. Two well-known comic artists will be explaining and teaching their art, inviting audience members to participate.

Phil Yeh is known as the Godfather of the American graphic novel. He is the founder of Cartoonists Across America and the World, has written 90 books and comics, and received a Children’s Choice Award for Dinosaurs Across America. Phil’s workshops emphasize “the importance of reading and observing the real world to be creative.” The audience will help him create a cartoon strip, focusing on characterization.

Isaac Paris specializes in kamishibai, the Japanese form of storytelling using comics. He will lead a series of improvisational drawing games. His unique style has been described as “slam cartooning,” and a fellow cartoonist stated, “It is an incredible thing to see because everyone just immediately falls under his spell.”

Both programs are for age 10 through adult. The schedule is as follows:

Phil Yeh
Redmond Library, March 2 @ 2:30
Downtown Bend Library, March 5 @ 3:30

Isaac Paris
Redmond Library, March 26 @ 6:30
Downtown Bend Library, March 27 @ 2:00
