Deschutes Public Library welcomes writer and photographer Ivonne Saed to the Downtown Bend Library on October 13 at 2 p.m. to read from and discuss her work. Taking place during October’s “Know Cultura” month of presentations, this event is also part of the library’s Second Sunday series, a monthly celebration of the written word. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Saed will explore her professional journey as she shares her work, including her award-winning novel Triple Chronicle of a Name. “I heard that story [her inspiration for the book] again and again for many years,” she says. “But I always had the feeling of a missing piece, of something that remained unsaid.” She filled in the missing piece with her own re-creation of the story. In that vein, Saed will talk about where she finds inspiration for her writing.

Saed is a writer, translator, photographer and graphic designer. She has extensively explored the crossroads between the visual arts and the written word, both in her own professional creation as well as in teaching. She published the novel Triple crónica de un nombre (Triple Chronicle of a Name)—which won the Juan Rulfo National Award for First Novel in Mexico—and the non-fiction book Sobre Paul Auster: Autoría, distopía y textualidad (On Paul Auster: Authorship, Dystopia and Textuality). She currently teaches Latin American Literature at Marylhurst University and has been a guide of several Delve seminars for Literary Arts in Portland, Oregon.
