You don’t have to break your bank to improve your home! With a little sweat and innovation, home owners can make improvements to their house that will pay off now in terms of livability and later in terms of value.

To help people make the most of their sweat equity, the folks from Newberry Habitat for Humanity and ReStore will be at the La Pine Library on November 3 at 2:00 p.m. to talk about what people can do to easily and affordably rehab and update their homes. This event is part of Deschutes Public Library’s “Know Sweat” November programming series. Dan Varcoe, the volunteer coordinator with Habitat, will lead the program.
Newberry Habitat is in Southern Deschutes County, one of the most economically depressed areas in Oregon according to the organization. Habitat encourages families that want to be homeowners who are involved in their communities to apply to qualify for the opportunity of home ownership. Varcoe coordinates volunteers with the organization and does community outreach. Newberry Habitat ReStore sells new and gently-used home improvement goods, furniture, home accessories, building materials and appliances to the public at a fraction of the retail price.
