Truman Capote's novella Breakfast at Tiffany's was originally published in 1958, but many people are more familiar with the feature film that was loosely adapted from Capote’s book. The differences between the novella and the movie screenplay are at times minor and at other times more profound, but overall they make for an intriguing exploration of what happens when a story makes its way from print to screen.

As part of Deschutes Public Library’s “Know Movies” month of programming, we present a discussion of Breakfast at Tiffany’s—novella and film—as well as a screening of the classic movie. The first program, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s: From Book to Film,” will be led by Tony Russell on February 4. Russell is an Assistant Professor of English at Central Oregon Community College. He has a Ph.D. in English from Purdue University and has been teaching at COCC since 2010. The second presentation, on February 11, is a screening of the film. Both events take place at the Downtown Bend Library and are free and open to all; no registration is required.
