Second Sunday: Murder at the Speakeasy-An Interactive Whodunit

Join us for a unique Second Sunday in June, when you're invited to help solve a 1920s-themed murder mystery organized by creative writing graduate students from OSU-Cascades. 

Ten costume-wearing students, who are in the low-residency Master of Fine Arts program at OSU-Cascades, will pose as an eclectic bunch of patrons at a speakeasy, where an aspiring starlet named Camille has been killed. Personalities will include a World War I general, a clairvoyant, a cabaret singer, a bartender, a bootlegger and a detective.

After they describe their relationships to the deceased, point fingers, and offer alibis and “hai-clues,” the audience will be asked to figure out who did it. Was it the starlet’s overshadowing sister or Coco Camembert, the jealous silent film star? Or was it the betrayed bootlegger, who’s still bitter over being stiffed for an entire delivery of hooch? Or maybe Camille’s fiancé finally tired of how his betrothed was blowing through his military pay.

The whodunit will take place from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Free hors d'oeuvres and mocktails will be provided. The public is encouraged, but not required, to wear attire representative of the 1920s.

The event is the capstone project for the class of 2017. Every June, the graduating class organizes an interactive event for the public. This year’s students created characters loosely resembling their humorous alter egos or personal interests and then put a Prohibition-era spin on them.
