Senior Services at the Library

This spring is the perfect time to brush up on the workshops, events, classes, and services Deschutes Public Library provides to older adults in our community.

From technology help to DIY programs to personalized services, we have offerings in all of our libraries that reflect the needs and interests of today’s seniors.  For creative types, we’ve just launched our CreativeClub, a crafting and DIY club. For book groups, we’ve created a 4-part series for training book club leaders. Do you know anyone downsizing their own or just need to get rid of extra stuff? Then they don’t want to miss our 3-part computer class series on Buying and Selling.

Services to the senior community are not just in our libraries. Our Community Librarians and Senior Services Team can bring the library outside our walls and into the community.  Through our Homeword Bound program, seniors that meet the qualifications can have books, audiobooks, and DVD’s shipped for free to one’s home. Our Community Librarians host programs at retirement communities around the district such as “Timeslips Storytelling Program” for seniors with memory care and “Digital Downloads”, a training on how to download DPL’s digital content. All of our services and events are free and open to the public. Programs marked with an asterisk (*) require registration.

Downtown Bend: Lunch and Learn for Book Club Leaders*

In this bi-monthly Lunch and Learn, starting in February and ending in August, you will leave with strategies used by DPL Book Club leaders as well as local book club leaders in the Central Oregon area. Deschutes County residents may use this service if they meet one of the following qualifications:

• short or long-term disability
• 75 years or older
• confined to  home because of illness
